Infinity

The process to make this design is similar to making a möbius ring, where the inside line is sharp and continuous.

The bronze flowers were with the lost-wax method.
The alabaster niche made specially for the display. The colours in the alabaster only appeared during the final stages of polishing, to my delight.

It took a while to find my way in this piece of stone. Eventually one side became simpler, and that’s the side I prefer. I usually display this in front of a mirror, so it’s easy to see all aspects.

Selenite has long crystals and can be difficult to sculpt, even for the experienced sculptor. The stone itself is said to have healing properties.

Oloid
An oloid is a three-dimensional curved geometric object that was discovered by Paul Schatz in 1929. It has interesting mathematical features and is basically two interlocking circles at 90º. Apart from being an interesting object to make, it is used as a propeller for efficiently mixing fluids.

The third picture shows some of the lines and measurements used while making the oloid shape.

Abstract

I had a plan for this stone, but when I started carving I soon realised it wasn’t going to become the simple infinity form I had previously made.
